There are 3 key elements needed for a successful in-person or live-online program.

1.Be clear on who your audience is

Audience clarity is crucial to identifying the right learning strategy and creating high impact learning experiences. When you have clarity on who your learners are, you can customize the content to cater to their specific learning needs.  Some questions  you should ask the stakeholders regarding the audience:

  • Who are the learners?  (titles and responsibilities)

  • Are they all from the same department or are they from cross-functional teams?

  • What is their level of experience and knowledge with the topic?

  • How do they like to learn?

  • What do you want them to accomplish after the training?

Once you gather answers to these questions, create learner personas.  Get sign-off from the stakeholders and then proceed to design the learning experience with this persona in mind.

2. Have a clear learning outcome

Have a clear learning outcome not only for the overall program, but also for each module or lesson. When you write your learning outcome, address:  why is that module important and what challenge are you solving. For the lesson topic, research to find some examples of current business challenges that might be faced and write the learning outcome in a way that it addresses the challenge.

3. Have visually appealing learning materials

Learning design principles coupled with visual design are equally essential to deliver a quality and aesthetically pleasing learning experience.  Whether you use Google Slides, PowerPoint or Keynote, design visually appealing learning materials using color, images, illustrations and text.

Visual design has to be aligned with the learner persona, content, environment and business learning needs.
